Dr. Shermak has helped many Baltimore Otoplasty patients. Please read more about what to expect from the procedure below.
What is Otoplasty?
Otoplasty sets back ears that are prominent with poorly defined cartilage and that project too far from the head. Incisions strategically hidden behind or in the creases of the ear can improve the position and appearance of the ear.
Who is a good candidate for Otoplasty?
Otoplasty is performed on children and adults with prominent ears.
What is the recovery like for Otoplasty?
Surgery is performed as an outpatient. You may experience temporary swelling, numbness, and bruising that respond well to head elevation, compressive wrapping, ice packs and Arnica Montana herbal supplementation. Most resume regular activities and return to work within a week, and swelling may take up to a month to resolve.
