Baltimore Botox and Dysport Specialist
Dr. Shermak has helped many Baltimore Botox and Dysport patients. Please read more about what to expect from the procedure below.
What are Botox and Dysport?
Repetitive muscle action in the face may cause wrinkles, typically in the forehead, between the brows, and at the sides of the eyes (smile lines/crow’s feet). Botox and Dysport weaken muscle action, smoothing the wrinkles. Additionally with weakening of muscles, muscles with opposing action become stronger, so treatment of crow’s feet will not only smooth wrinkles on the sides of the eye but also lift the tail of the brow. Botox and Dysport are comprised of Botulinum which is the active ingredient that weakens the muscle action.
Who is a good candidate for Botox and Dysport?
Good candidates are men and women in their 20’s and older who are looking to reduce facial wrinkles and creasing. Other applications beyond treating the brow and around the eyes include reversal of downturned corners of the mouth and neck bands. During the initial consultation you will discuss with Dr. Shermak what you would like to improve so she can understand your expectations and determine how to best achieve your desired result. At that visit, the treatment may take place. A second treatment is recommended 4 to 6 months later to achieve optimal results.
What is the recovery like after Botox and Dysport treatment?
For 24 hours, the area treated should not be rubbed or massaged, and bending over needs to be avoided (exercise, gardening, cleaning floors) to avoid migration of the product. Regular exercise and activities may be resumed by the following day. Some bruise with treatment, particularly at the side of the eyes, but this will resolve and may be helped by taking Arnica tablets.
