What is a Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)?
The eyelids are one of the first facial features to give away your age. Blepharoplasty helps correct loose, excess skin and puffiness that result in a tired, sad or angry appearance, and may even improve impaired vision due to drooping upper lid skin. Incisions are hidden or placed within natural creases: the upper eyelid incision falls within the upper eyelid crease and the lower lid incision is placed right under the lash line. The eyelid skin is the thinnest skin in the body and heals very quickly. The objective is a smoother, rejuvenated eye and a more refreshed, alert appearance.
Who is a good candidate for Blepharoplasty?
Good candidates for Blepharoplasty are men and women in good health who have wrinkled, excess tissue of the upper eyelids and/or puffiness and wrinkling of the lower lids. This procedure may be combined with Brow Lift, Facelift, or Facial Fat Grafting to rejuvenate the entire face. During the initial consultation you will discuss with Dr. Shermak what you would like to improve so she can understand your expectations and determine how to best achieve the desired result.
What is the recovery like for Blepharoplasty?
Surgery is outpatient. You may experience temporary swelling, numbness, and bruising that respond well to head elevation, ice packs and Arnica Montana herbal supplementation. Dryness after surgery is treated with drops during the day and lubricant at night. Most resume regular activities and return to work after one week, and swelling may take up to a month or two to resolve. Stitches are removed approximately 1 week after surgery.
