Liposuction is one of the most popular surgical procedures performed by plastic surgeons. In the right patient, results can be amazingly impactful with minimal scars and relatively easy recovery.

Who is the best candidate for Liposuction? Men or women who are healthy and have focal fat “problem areas”. Liposuction can be performed on multiple body regions, including the neck, arms, chest, abdomen, back, thighs and calves.

Techniques are in place for smoother contours. I use Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) which breaks up fat while removing fat. This allows the surgeon to place a greater focus on contours and less on sheer fat removal.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is! There are many machines in the market which promise huge results in a doctor’s office with no downtime. I see many people who have undergone treatments with these technologies after spending big money, with little to no result, or worse, deformity and laxity in areas that were previously taut, like the crease under the buttocks. A surgical liposuction procedure typically takes 1-3 hours in an outpatient setting and leads to a 100% result, money well spent.

Fat removed may be used for a better purpose. Many individuals choose to save some of the fat removed and place it in the face for softening, rejuvenation and improvement of the skin. Fat may be placed in the breasts for subtle breast augmentation. Fat may also be placed in the hip/buttock area to rejuvenate this area and provide more curves.
