What is Avéli?

Avéli is a minimally invasive, FDA-approved treatment for addressing cellulite on the buttocks and thighs. The Avéli device is used to identify and release each fibrous cord (called septa) that causes the cellulite dimples, eliminating their grip on the skin until the skin is smooth again.

The Avéli treatment takes about one hour, requires little downtime, leaves the skin smoother and reduces cellulite with long-term results.

Benefits of Avéli

Avéli provides a number of benefits for patients who want to finally be rid of cellulite, including the following:

  • Minimally-invasive treatment
  • Reduces the appearance of cellulite on the buttocks and thighs
  • Smooths the skin
  • Results are long-lasting
  • Requires little to no downtime
  • Results appear after one treatment

How does Avéli work?

Before the procedure begins, a local anesthetic is injected into the treatment area to ensure you’re comfortable. This procedure will be performed in either the clinic or the operating room.

After creating a small, well concealed incision, Dr. Shermak will move the Avéli device beneath the skin to detect and cut the connective tissue cellulite bands. The device has a lighted tip that allows her to see and target the individual bands of septae, and to verify that the targeted dimples have been effectively smoothed.

Dr. Shermak will release each of the septae in the buttock or thigh dimple, sometimes as many as 20. When she has verified that she has released every individual septa strand causing the targeted dimples in that area, the procedure is complete. A small bandage and compression girdle will be placed.

Your procedure will take about one hour, depending on the number of dimples being treated. Initial results will be visible immediately, but final results will take longer to appear.

Recovery and results after Avéli treatment

Expect swelling and bruising in the targeted area once your treatment is complete, which will fade over the first week, then continue to decrease in the following weeks. Most of the time you may drive yourself in and home.

Patients can return to most of their usual activities by the next day. Leave your bandages on for at least 48 hours, and wait for 1-2 weeks before you return to strenuous activity or exercise.

In most cases, only a single treatment is needed to achieve the desired results. Your final results will be apparent in about three months. In clinical studies, 80% of patients were either much improved or very much improved after their Avéli treatment.

COVID-19 Update 03/15/2022

This is a new day, with new safety protocols. Our goal is to keep everyone safe and respect the continued concerns COVID-19 may present.

The state of Maryland is now fortunately downgraded to Yellow Status. COVID stress on the medical system has lessened and most areas in the state no longer mandate masks.

Currently in our office we are maintaining sterile surfaces and compulsive cleaning protocols – as always. We are requesting information about vaccination status, to particularly better help us prepare for patients interested in surgical procedures.

We are not mandating masks. We do respect our patients’ wishes and will wear a mask when requested to do so. We want our patients to be absolutely comfortable. All of our staff are vaccinated.

This is certainly an evolving issue and we will continue to pivot as COVID statistics change – hopefully for the better! Thank you!
