Dr. Shermak is one of the nation’s most respected plastic surgeons. She is known for her surgical skills, advanced techniques, and the ability to perform breast augmentation to create a breast size and shape perfect for the person – and that look and feel exceptionally natural. She can help you resolve problems such as breast asymmetry, small breasts, or loss of volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding, or weight loss.

Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, or both?

Sagging breasts benefit from a breast lift either as a single procedure, or in conjunction with a breast augmentation. A breast lift can provide the illusion that your breasts are fuller by simply returning them to a higher, more youthful position, reshaping the tissue, and removing the excess skin that has given them a sunken, droopy, or deflated look.

Breast implants can be added if you have always wanted a bigger cup size or lost volume in your breasts. A breast lift in combination with implants will not only reposition your existing breast tissue but will reposition the nipple structure to a more attractive, youthful position higher on your newly reshaped breasts

Which implants are right for me?

Technological advances have led to a diverse number of options for breast implants. No matter the size, shape, or feel you are looking for, there are implants to suit your vision and will look beautiful and natural on your body. Dr. Shermak will help you evaluate your options by trying on different types, sizes, shapes, to find the perfect breast size for your figure.

Size

There are countless options available in the latest generation of breast implants, including saline and silicone. If you want a significant increase in breast size, you may benefit from a breast augmentation that is performed in stages or implants that are filled gradually over time. Your skin can then stretch comfortably to accommodate larger implants.

Material

The material that makes up the shell and filling of your implants can impact how they look and feel after healing. The basic types of implants are:

  • Saline implants, which are filled with a saltwater solution. They are a good option for women who have a good amount of breast tissue to conceal the implant. They also tend to be the most economical choice and are filled after being placed behind the breast tissue.
  • Silicone implants are filled with a stable silicone gel. The implants will hold their shape and have an extremely natural feel and weight. Silicone implants come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, including teardrop, or “gummy bear.”

How long is breast augmentation surgery?

Each breast augmentation surgery is unique, and the duration of your surgery will depend on size and shape of your implants, the placement of your implants above or below the pectoral muscle, and any added procedures, such as a breast lift. A standard breast augmentation procedure will take between one and three hours. Our skilled plastic surgeon will give you an idea of what to expect at every stage, from surgery through to full recovery.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation

Dr. Shermak will provide specific postoperative care instructions to help you heal quickly. Initial side effects like pain or swelling subside within five to seven days. Most women return to work after approximately one week when they feel comfortable enough to resume light activity. You will likely be able to resume strenuous exercise after about a month to six weeks.

Most importantly you should listen to your body. Pushing yourself too hard can result in longer healing time. More rest in the early stages of healing will aid in a smooth recovery.

How long does a breast augmentation last?

Your fuller, rounder breasts can boost self-confidence and flatter your figure for many years to come with the proper care. Modern implants last for many years and are typically covered by a warranty for ten years, although many last far longer.

There is no need to replace implants that are doing fine. Dr. Shermak can perform breast revision surgery to remove or replace implants as a result of rupture, rippling, or the development of scar tissue around the implant (capsular contracture).

Pregnancy or significant weight changes can affect the appearance of a breast augmentation. Maintaining a healthy weight is important to maintaining the look of your new breasts. Most of our patients are so pleased with their new breasts that they are inspired to live a healthy lifestyle.
