Juvederm Voluma

Voluma was designed by Juvederm to treat hollowed cheeks, sagging jowls and intractable nasolabial folds. It is the first filler of its kind formulated specifically for targeting the mid and lower face. It smooths, plumps and volumizes aging skin for a more rejuvenated aesthetic that will take years off of your perceived age. Voluma is often a key component of a non-surgical, or “liquid”, facelift. For those concerned about the discomfort of needles, Voluma is formulated with lidocaine, which numbs the skin for a more comfortable patient experience.

Treatment with Voluma lasts around 20-30 minutes. It’s important to abstain from using blood thinners for around 10 days prior to your appointment. Voluma requires no downtime, and typically has very minor side effects, if any. Note that by using a special enzyme, the doctor can completely reverse your results if you are not happy with them.

Juvederm Volbella

While most people are used to the idea of treating the wrinkles and fine lines that appear as a result of aging, an important new trend is to also address the aging of the lips. As the years pass, the lips may lose their volume, instead becoming thin and lusterless. Juvederm has addressed this issue by formulating a new, FDA-approved lip filler called Volbella. Volbella can help to restore lip fullness, while minimizing the fine lines (perioral rhytids) that build up around the mouth. Lip augmentation has never been easier or less invasive.

Like Voluma, Volbella uses a proprietary “vycross technology” that combines differently weighted hyaluronic acid molecules to improve the HA compounds’ efficacy. This unique formulation gives the filler more natural-looking results, and makes it easier to inject with less discomfort for the client. In addition, vycross technology gives Volbella longer-lasting results, in some cases up to 18 months.

What is recovery from Juvederm Voluma and Juvederm Volbella like?

All procedures with Juvederm are performed on an outpatient basis, so you will be able to return to work and normal activity right away. Dr. Shermak suggests that you abstain from drinking alcohol at least 24 hours after your injection, and that you also hold off on vigorous exercise for at least a few days. Clients should also take care to wear sunblock to protect their skin from harmful UV rays.

COVID-19 Update 03/15/2022

This is a new day, with new safety protocols. Our goal is to keep everyone safe and respect the continued concerns COVID-19 may present.

The state of Maryland is now fortunately downgraded to Yellow Status. COVID stress on the medical system has lessened and most areas in the state no longer mandate masks.

Currently in our office we are maintaining sterile surfaces and compulsive cleaning protocols – as always. We are requesting information about vaccination status, to particularly better help us prepare for patients interested in surgical procedures.

We are not mandating masks. We do respect our patients’ wishes and will wear a mask when requested to do so. We want our patients to be absolutely comfortable. All of our staff are vaccinated.

This is certainly an evolving issue and we will continue to pivot as COVID statistics change – hopefully for the better! Thank you!
