The Science behind Restylane

Hyaluronic acid is a unique compound found naturally in the human body. It replenishes the skin’s molecules, plumping them and giving them a resilient glow. Because hyaluronic acid is biocompatible, most clients find there is no allergic reaction to Restylane injections whatsoever.

Benefits of Restylane at a glace:

  • Safe, non-invasive and non-surgical
  • Treats laugh and frown lines, lip thinness, folds and wrinkles
  • Long-lasting results for up to 9 months
  • Hypoallergenic

The most common areas that Restylane targets are:

  • The space between the eyebrows
  • The edges of the lips
  • The jowls
  • The nasolabial folds
  • The lines around the mouth

What can I expect from treatment?

The Restylane procedure typically lasts about 30 minutes. You can elect to have it performed over your lunch break, it is that quick and easy. After numbing your skin to your comfort level, the doctor will create a facial map of the points to target, and then will administer the tiny, painless needles.

After the injections, some clients may experience redness, swelling or tenderness. These symptoms are only temporary and will generally abate within 24 to 48 hours. Dr. Shermak recommends keeping an ice pack on the treatment sites for around 20 minutes after your procedure to reduce swelling. You can also take advantage of Arnica pills to minimize bruising.

How long do Restylane results last?

Baltimore surgeon Dr. Shermak finds that results with Restylane tend to last between six and nine months on average. This will vary from patient to patient. With repeated visits and careful monitoring, you may be able to extend your positive Restylane outcomes to 18 months. Follow up with the doctor is an important component of recovery either way.

How can I achieve more comprehensive changes?

While Restylane can help combat many of the worst flaws brought on by the aging process, there are some issues it cannot address, such as facial hollowing or a double chin. For this reason, Dr. Shermak often recommends a combination treatment that may include Sculptra, BOTOX, Radiesse and Kybella. By employing the benefits of multiple injectables, Dr. Shermak can create a more total non-invasive facial transformation that will take years off your perceived age, and all without the lengthy downtimes and higher risks associated with surgery.

COVID-19 Update 03/15/2022

This is a new day, with new safety protocols. Our goal is to keep everyone safe and respect the continued concerns COVID-19 may present.

The state of Maryland is now fortunately downgraded to Yellow Status. COVID stress on the medical system has lessened and most areas in the state no longer mandate masks.

Currently in our office we are maintaining sterile surfaces and compulsive cleaning protocols – as always. We are requesting information about vaccination status, to particularly better help us prepare for patients interested in surgical procedures.

We are not mandating masks. We do respect our patients’ wishes and will wear a mask when requested to do so. We want our patients to be absolutely comfortable. All of our staff are vaccinated.

This is certainly an evolving issue and we will continue to pivot as COVID statistics change – hopefully for the better! Thank you!
