What is a Lip Flip?

A lip flip is a non-surgical injectable treatment wherein Botox is injected into strategically-targeted areas around the lips to enhance their contours. The Botox injection is delivered into the Cupid’s bow, i.e., the corners of the mouth and the middle of the upper lips, to relax the muscles and make your upper lips tilt upwards. As the upper lips tilt upwards, they instantly look fuller and more contoured.

How Does a Lip Flip Work?

Botox is a neurotoxin modulator composed of a special component called botulinum toxin type A. This component blocks communications between nerve endings and muscles, temporarily paralyzing the targeted muscles. When injected into the Cupid’s bow, Botox temporarily paralyzes the lip muscles, making the upper lips lift upwards and outwards. If you’re curious about the results, you can gently lift your upper lips up and outwards with your fingers.

Benefits of a Lip Flip

  • Non-surgical treatment
  • No pain or discomfort
  • Minimal side effects
  • Affordable treatment
  • Safe and effective
  • No downtime

Botox Lip Flip vs. Lip Fillers

A Botox lip flip is an ideal alternative to a traditional lip filler. However, both methods provide uniquely different results. Lip fillers also improve your lip shape, but they’re more focused on increasing the lip volume. They make your lips appear voluminous, full, red, and hydrated. Comparatively, Botox injections give your lips a lifted, everted, and contoured appearance. To put it simply, lip fillers focus more on volume, and Botox lip flip focuses more on the shape. Your cosmetic provider will recommend the ideal method based on your specific goals and needs.

Lip Flip Candidates

A lip flip is ideal for patients who want more contoured lips, i.e., lips with sharper edges and contours, without lip fillers. This treatment is also suitable for patients who want to showcase more of their lips while smiling. However, you shouldn’t have a history of severe allergies to neuromodulators, like Botox, Dysport, etc. Your cosmetic providers will carefully review your medical history to ensure you’re a viable candidate for a lip flip.

The Lip Flip Experience

Your lip flip treatment starts with a private consultation with our providers. They discuss your specific goals and concerns to determine if you’re a viable candidate for a lip flip and curate the ideal treatment plan accordingly. After selecting the appropriate Botox dose, they deliver the Botox injections into the Cupid’s bow. The number of injections depends on your specific goals and concerns. The overall treatment lasts for around 15 minutes.

Lip Flip Results

You may experience mild redness, swelling, and irritation on the lips for a few days, but you can resume all your daily activities immediately. The lip flip results usually manifest in a few days, with the final results appearing in a week or two. The results last for up to 3 months, following which you’ll need maintenance doses to retain the results. Your provider will discuss the ideal treatment frequency for maintenance.

View Update Virtual Consultation

We are officially open, thanks to Governor Hogan!

We welcome new patients and are looking forward to performing elective surgical procedures, starting the week of May 11.

This is a new day, with new safety protocols. Our goal is to keep everyone safe and respect the continued risk COVID-19 presents. For this reason, we will be instituting the following protocols:

  • We will have Sandy stationed at our entryway with sterilizer and a COVID-19 survey for our new patients to fill out. Sandy will also check your temperature and collect your paperwork at the door – our medical intake form can be filled out prior to your coming to the office, or you can fill it out after you arrive.
  • Please bring a mask for any in-office visits. If you are coming for surgery, please bring a paper mask if you have one. For any other visits, cloth masks or paper masks are fine.
  • We need any patient waiting to be seen to wait in your car until we can safely accommodate you in an exam room. We need to respect social distancing and are spacing our patients out to assure safety.
  • We can only allow the patient to come in to the office for examination. Friends or family will need to wait outside the office.
  • For those assisting our postoperative patients on the day of surgery: we ask that you kindly wait in your car and we will call you in to discuss postoperative instructions.
  • I am continuing to schedule Virtual Consultations which is exciting and new! Check out my Resources section or header at drshermak.com to get started!

I look forward to seeing you soon!

As of July 1st, the staff members at The Plastic Surgery Center of Maryland will no longer routinely be wearing masks following the state guidelines per Governor Hogan.

All of our staff members are vaccinated.

If any patient would prefer that the medical staff member caring for them wear a mask, please let us know and we will gladly do so.

We treat patients with compormised immune systems and we need to be respectful of their needs.

We are asking patients who are not fully vaccinated to please wear masks while in our office so that we may continue to safely accomodate our patients with weakened immune systems.

Thank you!
